Thinking of becoming a landscaper?
There are certain skills you’ll need to successfully run your business:
- You must have some knowledge of gardening and plant health
- You must be familiar with the tools you will be using
- You must have some lawn installation knowledge
- You must understand plant diseases
- You must grasp some basic concepts of ponds and waterfalls
- You should have some background with design, layout and placement in landscaping
If being in the outdoors relaxing and enjoying wildlife is one of your favourite pastimes, becoming a landscaper may be right for you. Then not only do you get to relax and enjoy the design that you create, but you get to see other people enjoy them as well!
When making the decision to become a landscaper, there are 2 different directions you can move in. You can:
- Choose to be a residential landscaper who only does work on landscaping of people’s homes.
- Choose to be a commercial landscaper who only does work on buildings that are not lived in (example: Business offices).
You also need to choose what kind of work you want to be doing (ex. Do you want to design the backyard layout, or just create the backyard layout). Once you have asked yourself all of these questions and figured out what’s right for you, it’s time to get yourself settled into a landscaping position.
