Sample Garden Pond Design- Creating a Pond with Waterfall
There is nothing more relaxing than the sound of flowing water coming from your pond, and creating a waterfall can create an attractive addition to a pond. The best setting for a waterfall is on a natural slope, but if you don’t have a slope to work with, you can build one up with the soil from excavating the pond. To make the setting more authentic, plant trees and perennials around the water feature and use large rocks around the falls. Waterfalls can include anywhere from one through three ponds, or could connect a stream to a pond.
You can create a waterfall by a number of different means; the waterfall can be preformed, it can be created from a liner, or you can use a waterfall filter to make it. No matter how you make the waterfall, however, you need something between where the water flows and the ground in order to prevent water loss (this includes using a liner underneath rocks).
When designing a waterfall, keep in mind that each pond has to be larger than the pond above it - this way, when the pump is turned off, your pond won’t overflow. As well, the bottom pond should be large enough that, when water is pumped to the top pond, you cannot see any water loss.
